Sullivan’s Steakhouse ~ Behind the Bar Tasting

Sullivan’s Steakhouse invited media to sample items from executive chef Teli Trikilis’ brand new bar menu. The odds of this being painful were out there, but the menu actually has a lot to offer the non meat eaters of Houston.

Sullivan’s has also developed a drink menu during happy hour that includes signature cocktails, as well as Sullivan’s sassy private label Cabernet.

Sullivan’s tasting began with black-eyed pea hummus. Served with chili crusted flatbread chips & pickled veggies, this app is, in my opinion, the best of the evening.

Most happy hour menus stuff people with fried this & that, but the hummus is refreshingly light with a perfect black-eyed pea flavor to the seal the deal. At times, hummus has the potential to bore innocent people directly into the depths of a deep vegetarian depression, but not this one. Hallelujah.

Sullivan’s blue cheese app with skillet chips, made in-house, is smothered with melted blue cheese & scallions, making it another bar menu win. Crossing fingers was the only option, as we knew there just had to be carcass coming soon.

Scottish smoked salmon with onion, capers, egg, sundried tomatoes & cream cheese crostini is yet another light option offered at Sullivan’s. Like.

We had a chance to taste the different specialty drinks throughout the tasting. Sullivan’s signature martini is made with Svedka Clementine vodka infused with fresh Hawaiian gold pineapples and an orange twist. Another is the CEO martini prepared using Finlandia vodka & served with blue cheese stuffed olives.

Joy was still in the room with the arrival of the wild mushroom arugula flatbread prepared using sautéed wild mushrooms, fontina, arugula and truffle oil. No worries, a truffle oil evacuation wasn’t necessary, for this chef knows when enough truffle is enough.

Last to arrive, before a meat eating bonanza extravaganza ensued, were three tuna tacos created using citrus scented tuna tartar, avocado slices and spicy alioli.

Rejoice meat lovers, for your time has arrived. Sullivan’s has two options for sliders during happy hour. Beef sliders with caramelized onions and pickles is available to those not fancying miniature lamb sliders with pita, tzatsiki sauce, roasted tomatoes and spinach.

Here we have a lovely slice of 6 oz New York strip which can be yours for only $14. Served with marinated cherry tomatoes and parmesan fries, it’s sure to hit the spot for someone — somehow– somewhere.

We truly enjoyed tasting Sullivan’s new bar menu, which isn’t just for steakhouse lovers. Don’t fret, for Sullivan’s has plenty to offer almost veggie people, too.
