I like to sit in the bar at Kirby’s. They have a big comfy couch beside a lake, with a beautiful patio. They feature live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I have eaten in the dining room, but find the bar atmosphere a lot more fun, minus the occasional smokers. The bar is extremely busy. I have been there during business happy hour. The servers still make sure all of the other guests are taken care of. Although the bar is packed, they take time to answer my questions about the menu.
The Maryland Style Crab Cake is jumbo lump crab meat, oven-baked with Beurre Blanc sauce. This is one of the best crab cakes I have ever eaten. The sauce doesn’t seem heavy, and the crab cake doesn’t seem to be overly filling. This is my favorite item on the appetizer menu.
The Lobster Cargot appetizer is incredible. It is a cold water Australian lobster tail, roasted in garlic lemon butter and topped with panko breadcrumbs and aged parmesan. Holy Moly!
Kirby’s Chopped Salad is awesome. It consists of iceberg lettuce, Granny Smith apples, walnuts, and red onions. It is then tossed with Kirby’s signature blue cheese dressing. The salad comes with bacon, but I asked for… no bacon. Please & Thank You.
For my entrée, I ordered the Pan Seared Ahi Tuna. The black sesame crusted sashimi tuna was perfect in every way!
I was so surprised and excited to meet the Executive Chef! His name is Daniel Nemec. He took the time to come speak with me about Almost Veggie Houston. He was very helpful in deciding which entrée to pick, as well as an excellent idea for an appetizer. Also, the manager came by three times to check on me, and was considerate and helpful throughout my stay at Kirby’s. It’s nice to see a busy restaurant that can still maintain a high quality of service.
