“Aquiles en Houston” ~ Preview Party

When entering a sassy preview party, um, try as hard as you can not to walk up the wrong stairs. This action is highly not recommended. After hiking a full three stairs up, an employee began to sorda shout, “Those stairs lead to the office.” Alrighty then.

Glancing around the room was the only option. After a full blown stair investigation, it was quickly confirmed that La Fisheria has another set of stairs. These particular stairs lead to a preview party. That’s right. Upstairs were loads of people, as well as an extremely knowledgeable sommelier.

Chef Aquiles Chavez

In case you care, last night was the preview party for the Houston based reality show — Aquiles en Houston, which will soon air on the Spanish television station Utilisima. The reality show focuses on Mexican chef Aquiles Chavez while he endures the hard knocks of living life as a newbie in the United States.

As he began this adventure, cameras were there to document the opening of La Fisheria, his new Mexican slash seafood restaurant in Houston. It wasn’t a day at the beach, people. Chavez brought his family from Mexico, leaving all that was solidly secure behind. Chavez stated, “Leaving Mexico is not leaving my traditions. I carry those with me.” Sniffle.

During this event, guests sipped on super Mexican award winning wine, as well as stuffing faces with mini versions of the real deal from the chef’s menu. Some of the items served were crab wings, ceviche, fried shrimp tacos, and fish croquettes.

Chavez falls into the category of celebrity chef. Really. This is not his first rodeo, having already been a part of two other television shows — Aquilísimo and Toque de Aquiles. He probably has to wear sunglasses in all parts of Latin America, as well as hire 2 bodyguards just to check his mail. Maybe.

The show debuts at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 10th. Expect great things from chef Aquiles Chavez, as he is unique in many magnificent ways.
