We recently stopped by DISH for a radio interview with executive chef Garreth Dickey. This guy seems to be one of those under-the-radar chefs that are not all that interested in receiving fluff. His demeanor assured me that he’s probably never yelled at anyone and probably holds the door for senior citizens daily. Besides being genuinely kind, this chef has talent.

When chef Garreth made his way to Dallas, he began working for Stephan Pyles at Star Canyon. He was also executive chef at The Porch, as well as Hibiscus. If he had anything to do with the mac & cheese recipe at Hibiscus, then we must all immediately bow down to his greatness.

DISH’s menu is described as “modern comfort food” with prices ranging from $4 – $32. The seasonal menu brings with it exciting new creations for DISH fans to enjoy. Chef Garreth also offers a three-course tasting menu that changes nightly, with an optional wine pairing. Rumor on the street is DISH morphs from restaurant to nightclub after ten or so. The decor certainly backs up this story. Maybe that’s why a lot of guys were wearing cool looking hats and skinny jeans during dinner.

Just so you know, someone up in this club is an animal lover. Not only does DISH care about your pet being pampered on the patio, there is a canine-friendly menu. Please do not bring a cat. No one likes this. This menu does not say feline-friendly. I have never seen a fun cat. Cats are always scratching people. The only thing cats do for fun is painstakingly claw at a ball of yarn all day– pouncing on it like prey. Snoozer. Dogs need patio pampering in order to relax after a long day of fetching.

There are plenty of plates to share in the app area of the menu. Almost Veggie people have the option of ordering mixed mushroom flatbread, salt and pepper calamari, Imperial crab dip, blue cheese mussels, or ahi tuna pica— to name more than a few. There are plenty of meat, seafood, and signature dishes on the menu as well. Do yourself a favor and save room for dessert. The salted caramel pudding is glorious.

Sometimes people release a fantastic vibe filled with whole-hearted goodness. Executive chef Garreth Dickey possesses that kind of vibe. Whether dinner or brunch, experiencing this chef’s creations is something you don’t want to miss.

  1. Son, You are top of the line! You have always been a super artist of your own making, but this variety of artistic dishes, each qualify as a Rembrandt. The flowers of spring could not be more unique and beautiful. Be proud, Garreth! Love, Dad
