Being invited to Roma’s for lunch this past week forced feelings of food-writing-inadequacy upon realizing I’d never heard of Roma’s. This restaurant has been around for years. Every person living in Dallas probably has the menu memorized at Roma’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant. After snooping their website for four minutes, moving on was the right thing to do. It’s impossible to know everything, minus the James Beard Foundation. The only thing the James Beard Foundation does not know is that Almost Veggies deserves an award for award-worthy-champion-food-writing. That’s all.
Roma’s is located on Greenville Avenue directly in front of a real Rastafarian bar called Heroes. Our lunch began with none other than hot wings. We had to order hot wings simply because we could order hot wings at an Italian restaurant. Having hot wings on the menu means Roma’s has a soft spot for customers who wanted to dine at a wings place, but their family said, “No, we are having Italian tonight.” Since wings are an option, everyone is happy, which makes the world a better place.
The main dish screaming my name was sautéed lobster and shrimp with ravioli. Having analyzed the menu’s description, the lobster and shrimp were not inside the ravioli. This had to mean more lobster would arrive than one might assume. When lobster’s hidden inside ravioli, it’s a complete mystery as to how much lobster is actually involved, which helps control food cost. Lobster on the outside, with total lobster freedom, means there’s likely more than an average amount. Please, raise the roof.
This invite truly did not hurt our feelings a single bit. Everything we ordered left us happy, which means recommending the food we ate to every stranger on the internet. If it sucked, this news would be super sad and depressing. Luckily, Roma’s kitchen is slinging the kind of food their customer’s can enjoy.
