News ~ Tu-Lu’s Gluten-Free Bakery Opening in West Village

Tu-Lu’s Gluten-Free Bakery is opening its 3rd location on Thursday, October 18th. Located in the West Village Shopping Center, expect the best from owner Tully Phillips. Since being diagnosed with gluten intolerance while interning at Gramercy Tavern in New York City, she decided to make a difference.

Phillips explains, “The line of products I had the most difficulty replacing were baked goods. I was able to find products at bakeries offering wheat-free alternatives, but they never tasted the same as the cookies and cupcakes I was used to. After experimenting with different blends of flours in my kitchen at home, I finally came up with recipes for cookies, brownies and cupcakes that everyone can enjoy. And coming from Memphis, we southerners take our desserts very seriously!”

Even more important is the difference she can make in a child’s life. “There is nothing more rewarding about my business than having moms tell me how happy Tu-Lu’s makes their child. Children with food restrictions are constantly being told they can’t eat something with their friends or siblings so they always feel left out. It gives me great pleasure knowing that what we create at Tu-Lu’s can make a child feel normal.”
